Legal and regulated online poker began in New Jersey in November of 2013, initially offering access only to players physically located in New Jersey. The player pool has expanded since then, and now players are shared between the states of New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware. Hopefully, more geographic areas will be added soon as online gambling expands to additional states in the US.
Poker and online gambling in NJ are regulated by the Department of Gaming Enforcement, which oversees the providers to insure that the brands operate in accordance with the strict rules established in the state. Each poker room must also operate under the license of a land-based casino in Atlantic City.
