In our latest market update, we find that Betfair continues to offer the largest signup bonus of any online casino in New Jersey. Their promotion is $10 free, plus double your initial deposit up to a massive $1500 match.
Betfair had a strong start in this market back in 2014. At launch they were clearly at the top of the heap, with the best variety of table games in the state and a steadily increasing slot selection. In the years since, competition has gotten fierce as other casinos steadily add more games to their portfolio. While Betfair’s table game dominance is largely a thing of the past, they continue to lead the market in exclusive slot titles not available anywhere else.
A slate of exclusive games plus a best-in-market bonus offer put Betfair still near the top in our NJOC rankings.
Betfair offers the largest signup bonus in NJ, with $10 free plus a first deposit match up to $1500. Slots from 16 different developers mean that you get more variety in slots, and not just rehashes of the same game with a different name. Table game choices are solid, with reasonable rules. The weakest area is a sparse video poker inventory, although the games do offer good paytables.
Lots of Exclusive Slot Titles
As more casinos in NJ expand their games to include page after page of slots, it can seem like each of the casinos offers the same games as everyone else. That is not always a bad thing, and certainly, most of us like to see our time-tested favorites in the list. But it is also nice to see what a casino does to stand out from the competition.
Betfair has an edge in that regard, with a large number of titles that are available only at Betfair. The exclusive games are titles like Solstice Celebration, Enchanting Pixie, and Thunder King. Some of my favorites among the unique offerings are the titles from Multimedia Entertainment, such as Starry Night and the very engaging Brazilian romp Carnival in Rio.

This bevy of exclusive games is reflected in the sheer number of developers that have games in the Betfair portfolio. The number of developers featured now stands at 16, up from 14 in our review a year ago. That’s what I like to see. The list includes names you know well, like IGT and Aristocrat, but also up-and-coming companies like SG Interactive and Lightning Box. Game diversity is Betfair’s strongest attribute.
Many of the Usual Favorites
Of course, in addition to the exclusive titles, you will find a good sampling of traditional favorites, like Bier Haus, Day of the Dead, Fire Queen, Golden Goddess, Super Jackpot Party, and Kitty Glitter.
Table Games: Just the Standards
The table game trend at Betfair has definitely been a disappointment. In 2014, they launched as the clear table games leader in NJ. No other casino was even close to the diverse choices they made available. In the years since, much of that variety has disappeared. At one time, they offered Mississippi Stud, Four Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em.
Let It Ride has an interesting history at Betfair. It was among the games available at launch, but then it disappeared after a massive $1.52 Million payout on the game. Fortunately it returned nearly a year later, and now in early 2017 it is still among the games available at Betfair.
Last year’s review touted an excellent version of craps from developer NYX, which disappeared in the months since. In fact, the NYX craps game is no longer available anywhere in NJ, leaving dice players with only two versions in the market: Gamesys at Trop and Virgin, and Party at Borgata and PartyPoker.
Overall, at least the mainstays of table games are still represented, and with reasonable rules.
One bright spot is a normal baccarat variety called EZ Baccarat, as contrasted with the “no-commission” baccarat versions more common in NJ. (They have that one at Betfair too.)
Three versions of blackjack, five of roulette, and Three Card Poker are among the other table games still found there.
Video Poker, Slim but Tolerable
With only 8 VP games available, at least the games are reasonably good. The best are the four games offered in IGT’s familiar “Game King” format, identical to the machines on the casino floor. These include Jacks or Better (9/6 paytable: 99.544% return), Bonus Poker (8/5 paytable: 99.17%), Double Bonus (9/7/5 paytable: 99.11%) and Double Double Bonus (9/6 paytable: 98.98% return). On each game, you can wager from $0.10 up to $50.00 per hand.
Betfair also has a Deuces Wild video poker game from GAN. The game is not as well-implemented, but if you prefer Deuces it will have to do. The paytable is “15/9” deuces, which returns 98.91%.
Free $10 Signup Bonus
The first bonus you will see at Betfair is a free $10 signup bonus. Just by registering an account with your details, you will get $10 added into your account to try the games. There are no wagering requirements associated with the $10 bonus, but you cannot withdraw the funds until you have made a regular deposit into your account. It’s a great way to try the games without risking any of your own money. Then, if you have a lucky run and turn it into a nice sum, you will need to make a deposit before you can collect the balance.
Biggest First Deposit Bonus in NJ (up to $1500)
If you make a first deposit of at least $10, you are eligible for a 100% match bonus, effectively doubling your starting balance. The bonus is available up to a maximum deposit of $1500, yielding a $1500 bonus. The wagering requirements are 20X the bonus if you play slots. For example, if you deposit $100 and get a $100 bonus, your starting balance is $200. To withdraw without restrictions, you will need to wager 20 X $100 = $2000 before making a withdrawal. That assumes you are playing slots. Slots are a full 100% contribution to your wagering requirements, but video poker and blackjack only count as 10%, meaning that it takes ten times as much wagering on those games. (Roulette counts at 50%.)
As I always mention, terms and conditions of bonuses can change without notice. Make sure you check the details before you accept the bonus.
Beyond the sign up and deposit bonus, there are additional promotions based on the day of the week. Check the promotions page for the details. Certainly you should try to take advantage of the promotion on any given day that you play.
Deposits and Withdrawals
You can deposit funds into your Betfair Casino account via ACH, a credit or debit card, a wire transfer, a check, BillPay, a prepaid card, or PayNearMe at 7-Eleven stores.
Withdrawals can be paid by ACH or check.
I recommend ACH as a deposit method. Credit and debit cards are still an issue for some players, as some banks are declining all gambling transactions despite their legality. If you plan to try a credit card, my personal experience was that my Citibank cards were successful, but my Chase Bank cards were declined. MasterCard tends to work more often than Visa. But in general, there are still many declined transactions with credit cards. More importantly, your card issuer will probably treat the transaction as a cash advance and charge a fee for it. Interest charges may begin accruing immediately on the balance.
Using ACH avoids all of those problems, and I found it to be quick and easy. The funds are transferred from your bank account much like an electronic check. Withdrawing my winnings back to my bank was also easy, once I had accomplished a one-time identity verification process.
VIP Loyalty Club
Betfair has a loyalty program with five different tier levels with varying benefits. Of most practical benefit is the earning of reward dollars as you play. For slot games, the cashback rate varies depending on your tier level. At the lowest level, it returns just 0.1%. But at the highest tier level, the cashback increases to 0.5%. Depending on how much you play, this can be a nice extra.
Also at the higher levels you become eligible for extra bonuses, promotions, and gifts.
Betfair: A Serious Contender
In my initial review, I ranked Betfair at the very top in NJ. With the removal of several of the table games that made such a compelling argument for Betfair, I have moved them down one notch on my ranking list.
The one thing that really makes them stand out from the competition is the large inventory of exclusive games, not available elsewhere. They continue to be one of the leaders, so I think an account at Betfair is a must for any player in NJ.
